The Issues: Good Government
|
I believe that government should help lift all people. Government should be responsive to the needs in the community, be results-oriented, and be transparent. Conflicts of interest should be avoided, and I make sure to recuse myself from voting on matters when I have a conflict of interest.
When I was on the Kaua'i County Council, I incorporated an anti-nepotism policy in the County Council rules, and as House Majority Leader, I worked on rule amendments that, for the first time, included an anti-nepotism provision. During the 2026 session, the legislature approved many bills to make government more transparent, accountable, and accessible. We expanded partial public campaign financing, tightened electronic filing requirements for campaign disclosures, prohibited certain campaign fundraising activities by executive branch nominees, and reaffirmed that corporations do not have the power to spend money to influence elections. |
