The Issues: Good Government
I believe that government should help lift all people. Government should be responsive to the needs in the community, be results-oriented, and be transparent. Conflicts of interest should be avoided, and I make sure to recuse myself from voting on matters when I have a conflict of interest.
When I was on the Kaua'i County Council, I incorporated an anti-nepotism policy in the County Council rules, and more recently, as House Majority Leader, I worked on rule amendments that, for the first time, included an anti-nepotism provision.
I've supported many government reforms to modernize public financing, ban fundraisers during the legislative session, and make it easier to provide testimony remotely.
